1989 mitch williams

mitch williams was traded from the rangers to the cubs in the december 1988 deal that sent rafael palmeiro to texas.  here's his 1989 o-pee-chee card:

williams had a huge year in 1989, helping the cubbies get back to the nlcs for the first time since 1984.  he appeared in 76 games and had 36 saves with a 2.76 era.  he was named to the all-star team and finished in the top 10 in both cy young and mvp voting.  williams finished the all-star game for the nl squad in a losing effort.  he walked the first batter he faced (former teammate ruben sierra) but promptly picked him off.  he then retired the next two batters without incident.
