von hayes was acquired by the angels in a december, 1991 trade with the phillies to help offset the loss of wally joyner. here is his 1992 o-pee-chee card:

things didn't turn out as hoped, as the halos released hayes in august after he put up a line of 4/29/.225 in 94 games. that's actually better than he had done for the phils in 1991, but not good enough for the angels, i guess. at any rate, it opened up the right field job for tim salmon in 1993.

1983 von hayes

the indians traded von hayes to the phillies for a boatload of players - manny trillo, julio franco, george vukovich, jay baller, and jerry willard - in december of 1982.  here's his 1983 o-pee-chee card:

hayes had just finished 7th in the al roy voting when he was traded.  while hayes' production was down in 1983 compared to his rookie season, the phillies made the postseason, and hayes went a combined 0 for 5 in the nlcs and world series - his only career postseason appearance.  he rebounded with some solid years for the phillies, including 1986 when he finished 8th in the nl mvp voting.
