bill almon signed as a free agent with the a's in january of 1983. here's his 1983 o-pee-chee card

bill almon was the first overall pick in the 1974 amatuer draft, and after just 39 games in the minors, the padres called the ivy leaguer up to the majors. he bounced around a little bit, but settled in with the white sox for a couple of productive seasons. in going to oakland in 1983, almon missed out on chicago's al west crown, but he did set career highs in many categories such as doubles, rbi, and stolen bases.
almon would go on to play for the pirates, mets, and phillies before calling it a career. with the phillies in 1988, he hit his only career walk off home run, a 12th inning inside the park job against the astros.
