gary lucas was traded to the expos from the padres in a three team deal that also involved the cubs. here's his 1984 o-pee-chee card
here's the topps front:and the topps back:
i enjoy the expos and a's variations from 1984 because they are usually so colorful, and lucas' card does not disappoint. lucas would pitch in montreal for two seasons before moving on to the angels. he is perhaps best known among the angel faithful (and this dodger fan) as the guy who replaced mike witt in the bottom of the 9th of game 5 of the 1986 alcs with a one run lead, two outs, and the bases empty. he promptly hit rich gedman with a pitch, and was immediately replaced by donnie moore and the rest is history. it's worth noting (again, to this dodger fan) that lucas' major league debut came against the dodgers, and he gave up an rbi groundout to steve garvey in his lone inning of work.
voici à vous, 1984 gary lucas!
