1977 jerry white

hey! did you know that jerry white was a switch-hitter?  well, thanks to his 1977 o-pee-chee photo variation, we have visual evidence.  here is his 1977 o-pee-chee card:
he bats left!  here's the topps front:
he bats right!  he's a switch-hitter!  now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
white clearly looks more comfortable in his o-pee-chee photo, and it makes sense as he hit .269 as a lefty and only .214 from the right side during his career.  in 1977, white had only 5 plate appearances from the right side and was hitless each time.  of course, he had only 22 pa's all year as he spent most of his time in the minor leagues while the expos were playing youngsters andre dawson, warren cromartie, and ellis valentine in the outfield.  white saw more playing time in 1978, but that was mainly due to a midseason trade in which he was sent to the cubs.

voici à vous, 1977 jerry white!
