brett butler came to his senses and left the giants in december of 1990, joining the dodgers as a free agent. here's his 1991 o-pee-chee card:
here's the topps front: now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
butler was coming off three very strong seasons with the giants when the dodgers lured him with better beaches and loads of cash. anyway, he didn't disappoint as in his first year in dodger blue, butler led the league in games played, plate appearances, runs scored, and walks (and times caught stealing if we are being completely honest) and finished at number 7 in the mvp voting. he also appeared in his only all-star game that year, pinch-running for tony gwynn in the 7th inning before grounding out to dennis eckersley in the 9th to end the game.butler spent more time with the dodgers (six and a half seasons) than with any other team, and finished his career with them in 1997 after a short detour in new york.
voici à vous, 1991 brett butler!
