al cowens was acquired by the angels in december of 1979. here is his 1980 o-pee-chee card:
here's the topps front: now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
as a member of the royals in the mid 1970's, cowens suffered through three straight alcs losses to the yankees (1976-1978) before joining the halos (who had lost the alcs in 1979) for the 1980 season. unfortunately for cowens, 1980 was finally the year the royals would make it to the world series.
cowens spent just a short time in southern california, 34 games to be exact, before the angels dealt him to detroit for jason thompson. apparently, they missed the left handed bat that they gave up to get cowens in willie mays aikens. as a tiger, cowens returned to full-time right fielder status and hit .280 in 108 games.
voici à vous, 1980 al cowens!
