1991 ted power

ted power couldn't beat the reds in the 1990 nlcs with the pirates, so he decided to join them as a free agent in december of 1990. here's his 1991 o-pee-chee card:
here's the topps front:
now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
power had previously played for the reds from 1983 through 1987. back then, he was the team's primary closer, at least for a couple of seasons. this time around, he complemented the 'nasty boys' tandem of rob dibble and norm charlton, picking up 3 rogue saves and appearing in a team leading 68 games. unfortunately for power, the reds were unable to repeat their 1990 success, and finished 5th in the nl west. power moved on after the season, signing a free agent contract with the indians.

voici à vous, 1991 ted power!

  1. Very informative blog...there is so much info about the O-Pee-Chee cards.

Anyway, it seems like 1988 and after, they quit updating the logo or font or whatever that identified the new team the player was traded to and just put Now with "X", but kept the identity of the older team. Is this assumption true?

  2. kevin - you are correct. 1987 was the last year that o-pee-chee used what i refer to as team variations. from 1988 through 1992 there were text variations only. 1992 was the last year that o-pee-chee used the topps design.
