1983 carney lansford

with wade boggs on the scene in boston, the red sox sent incumbent third baseman carney lansford to the a's in a trade prior to the 1983 season. here's lansford's 1983 o-pee-chee card:

and the topps back:

the 1981 al batting champion would miss about half of the 1983 season, but he became a fixture on the a's dynasty teams later in the decade. lansford was a career .305 hitter in the postseason, and hit well over .400 in both the 1989 nlcs and world series. he went 3 for 4 and scored the first run in game 3 of the series which had been postponed due to the loma prieta earthquake. in 1990, lansford had the dubious honor of making the final out of the world series, fouling out to reds' first baseman todd benzinger. lansford missed almost all of the 1991 season after sustaining some serious injuries in a snowmobile accident, but returned to play a complete season in 1992, although it was his last in the big leagues.

voici à vous, 1983 carney lansford!
