after the 1989 season, free agent ted power signed with the pittsburgh pirates. here is his 1990 o-pee-chee card:
here's the topps front:
now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
as a member of the 1990 pirates, power was part of a 'closer by committee' along with bill landrum, bob patterson, and stan belinda. used exclusively as a reliever for the first time since 1985, he saved 7 games and won one game in 40 appearances. the pirates won the nl east that year but lost the nlcs to the reds (for whom power had pitched from 1983 through 1987) in 6 games. power made his only postseason appearances in that series, pitching in 3 of the games. he saved the first game, finished the fourth game, and started the sixth. kind of hershiser-esque, except that the pirates lost the series.
voici à vous, 1990 ted power!
