the dodgers traded mike marshall to the mets in december of 1989. here is his 1990 o-pee-chee card:
here's the topps front: now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
marshall had some decent years for the dodgers, although he was cursed to never live up to the hype he generated in the pcl, having won the aaa triple crown in 1981 with a line of 34/137/.373. he was a first baseman who came up while steve garvey was still around, and so got moved to the outfield. at any rate, the mets didn't hold on to him for long, sending him to boston midway through the 1990 season. in total, he hit .258 with 10 home runs that year, and went 1 for 3 in the alcs against the a's.
marshall, who may or may not have hit a homerun in his first big league at bat (it was ruled a double), was not the most durable player. he once sat out due to 'general soreness'.
voici à vous, 1990 mike marshall!
This has nothing to do with the card, but I remember waiting for hours to get a Mike Marshall autograph at my LCS as a kid. I have to dig that up.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, cool card. It brought back a memory for me.
