in november of 1976, rico carty was selected by the blue jays from the indians in the expansion draft. however, o-pee-chee didn't airbrush him out of his cleveland duds. here is his 1977 o-pee-chee card:
here's the topps front: now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
now the reason o-pee-chee left him as an indian and didn't go with topps' altered photo and really bad shadowing is that in december of 1976, the blue jays sent carty back to the indians in exchange for rick cerone and john lowenstein.
carty had a solid year for the indians in 1977, just as he had in his previous 2-plus years with the club. he hit .280 with 15 home runs and 80 rbi. toronto must have been keeping track, because they once again acquired carty from the indians just prior to the 1978 season. of course, they didn't keep him for long, sending him to oakland in august of 1978. don't worry, though. the blue jays would get carty back one more time which we will discuss in a couple of days.
voici à vous, 1977 rico carty!
