1989 world series (mickey hatcher)

thanks to his world series heroics, the original 'stunt man', mickey hatcher got his own 1989 o-pee-chee exclusive card
with no similar topps card, we'll go straight to the o-pee-chee back:
notice that this card celebrates mickey's first inning home run in game 5, and it appears to be an accurate photo with the away grays and the yellow top of the oakland dugout.  i always think of mickey's first inning home run in game 1 of the series, which is the one that fleer put on a card in 1989.

anyway, hatcher hit only one home run all season in 1988 and then hit two in the world series.  his final line for the series was mvp-worthy (if not for orel hershiser's pitching heroics he would have won) as he went 7 for 19 (.368) with two homers, five rbi, five runs scored, a double, and an ops of 1.137.  i remember feeling bad for hatcher in 1987 after the twins won the world series, as he was released by minnesota in spring training of that year.  no doubt the 1988 world series made up for any disappointment he may have felt.

voici à vous, 1989 world series (mickey hatcher)!
