after three seasons with the california angels, ron romanick was traded to the yankees for butch wynegar. hence, his 1987 o-pee-chee card, complete with an interesting placement of the text...
here's the topps front:now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
romanick placed 7th in the 1984 al roy voting, but regressed slightly in his sophomore year. in his final year with the angels, he was sent down to aaa in july and did not return to the big leagues. in fact, he spent all of 1987 in aaa for the yankees and all of 1988 (his final professional season) in the brewers' minor league system. he's currently the bullpen coach for the a's.
oh, by the way. the soap opera he appeared on? it was 'days of our lives', and he filmed his cameo (with kirk mccaskill) during the 2-day 1985 players' strike. i had forgotten all about that strike.
voici à vous, 1987 ron romanick!
