tim stoddard had a career year for the nl east champion cubs in 1984, winning 10 games and saving 7. after the season, however, he traded up and signed as a free agent with the nl champion padres. here's his 1985 o-pee-chee card
here's the topps front:now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
stoddard was the pitcher in game 4 of the nlcs (the garvey game, as i like to call it) who gave up garvey's tie-breaking single in the bottom of the 7th. although the cubs would tie the game in the 8th, garvey would win it in the 9th with a walk off home run. back to stoddard - although the padres didn't get back to the postseason in 1985 or 1986 (his final year with the team), he did hit a home run (his only career jack) in his final major league at bat.
voici à vous, 1985 tim stoddard!
