dave anderson left the dodgers and joined the rival giants as a free agent after the 1989 season, as indicated on his 1990 o-pee-chee card.
here's the topps front:now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
anderson was (one of) the heir apparents to bill russell at shortstop for the dodgers, but couldn't quite claim the spot. he filled the role of utility infielder fairly well, and was famously on deck as a 'decoy' while mike davis was at bat against dennis eckersley in the 9th inning of game 1 of the 1988 world series. to everyone's relief, kirk gibson was able to hit instead of anderson. dave, who is currently the third base coach for the texas rangers, would spend two seasons in san francisco before returning to the dodgers for one last go around.
voici à vous, 1990 dave anderson!
