dave goltz signed with the dodgers as a free agent in november of 1979. he finished 6th in the 1977 cy young voting as he won 20 games for the twins and led the league with 39 starts! he also pitched 303 innings that year, with only jim palmer pitching more (319). goltz had won 96 games for the twins in 8 years prior to becoming a free agent, and the dodgers had high hopes.
here's his 1980 o-pee-chee card:
a good ol' team and text variation.
here's his 1980 topps front:
here's the o-pee-chee back:
number 108 in the set.
and the topps back:
193 in the set. once again, the o-pee-chee checklist varied widely from topps'. it looks like the cartoon didn't shrink, but the text sure did. the team affiliation on the back of the o-pee-chee card is updated, but the acquired information is not.
the 1980 set came in at 374 cards, just like 1979, and did not parallel the topps checklist at all. for the fourth year in a row, there were more expos and blue jays included than other teams, and only the expos and blue jays team and future stars cards are included.
voici à vous, 1980 dave goltz!
