james had saved 17 games for the expos since may of 1983 leading up to the trade, and the chisox decided to put him in the closer's role. he didn't disappoint in 1985, saving 32 games while posting an era of 2.13 and a whip of 1.03 in 110 innings pitched. unfortunately, james was unable to repeat the success he had in 1985, and was released by the white sox after the 1987 season.
