fred mcgriff was traded from the blue jays to the padres in the december 1990 deal that also included tony fernandez, joe carter, and roberto alomar. here is his 1991 o-pee-chee card:

mcgriff responded to the trade by finishing 10th in the 1991 mvp voting, just as he had in 1990 for the blue jays. he hit 31 home runs, drove in 106 (the first time in his career he had topped 100 rbi), and although his average dipped 22 points to .278, he maintained an obp of around .400.
mcgriff spent just 2 and a half years in san diego before being traded to the braves and into the mainstream thanks to tbs. i still wish he had hit 7 more home runs...
