ray knight signed as a free agent with the orioles prior to the start of the 1987 season. here is his 1987 o-pee-chee card:
here's the topps front:
now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
i remember knight as the guy who replaced pete rose at third for the reds and was married to nancy lopez, but there's no denying his place in history as the mvp of the 1986 world series as well as the guy who scored the winning run in the mets' game 6 victory.
with the orioles, knight took over at third from a floyd rayford/tom o'malley platoon and did ok, hitting 14 home runs and driving in 65. the orioles as a team, however, did not improve, and knight was dealt to the tigers the following year where he ended his career.
voici à vous, 1987 ray knight!

I've had a chance to speak to Ray a few times since he does Nationals broadcasts from Nats Park and he's a wild guy.
