1979 oscar gamble

oscar gamble was traded by the padres to the rangers in november of 1978. here is his 1979 o-pee-chee card:
here's the topps front:
now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
it's a tame image compared to some of his other cards, to be sure. gamble had spent one year in san diego after a single year in chicago with the white sox, and his vagabond ways continued in 1979 as he was traded to the yankees midway through the season. for the rangers, gamble hit .335 with an ops of .979 in 64 games. he did even better once he was back in the bronx, hitting .380 with an ops of 1.187 in 36 games. for the season, he totaled 19 home runs, 64 rbi and a .358 batting average, although he was nowhere near qualifying for the batting title.

gamble stayed with the yankees for 5 more seasons (the most stability he enjoyed in his career) before finishing up with the white sox in 1985.

voici à vous, 1979 oscar gamble!
