what the text fails to mention is that garrett's grand slammer came off of former teammate tom seaver.

garrett, who at the time had played more third base for the mets than any other player, finished up the 1976 season with montreal. he was still there in 1977, although it turned out to be his only full season with the expos, as the was sent to the cardinals during the 1978 season. garrett hit only two home runs for the expos in 1977, but one of them came in that 21-inning game i mentioned in dave cash's post. in that game, the visiting padres had taken an 8-7 lead in the 12th inning when garrett was sent to the plate as a pinch hitter to lead off the bottom half of the frame. he promptly took rollie fingers deep to tie the score and force more extra innings.
