1977 jay johnstone

a little left-to-right cropping adjustment, and a little facsimile autograph tilting and we have a typical 1977 o-pee-chee variation for jay johnstone.  here is johnstone's 1977 o-pee-chee card:

unfortunately, johnstone's 7 hits in the 1976 nlcs were not enough to unseat the reds as nl champions.  he had already won a ring with the 1973 a's (although he did not appear in the postseason that year) and soon enough he would be traded by the phillies to the yankees where he would win another title.  oddly enough, the yankees would trade rawly eastwick to the phillies in that deal, and as i am sure you are aware, eastwick was the closer for the reds' 1975 and 1976 world championship teams.

as for 1977, johnstone again helped the phillies to the nlcs by way of his clubhouse antics and 15/59/.284 line achieved over 112 games.  this time, johnstone was able to muster only 1 hit in the series as the dodgers beat the phillies for the pennant.

voici à vous, 1977 jay johnstone!
