1977 dave hilton

o-pee-chee stacked dave hilton's facsimile autograph and also fixed the coloring of his collar to make him look more like a blue jay on his 1977 o-pee-chee card.  [edit - they even took a stab at changing the blue jays logo on his hat in what i assume was an effort to make it appear more realistic (thanks eric)]  here is hilton's 1977 o-pee-chee card:
here's the topps front:
now the o-pee-chee back:
and the topps back:
as you can see by the back of the cards, hilton had last appeared in the majors in 1975.  what the card doesn't tell you, obviously, is that hilton would not appear in another major  league game.  he spent all of 1977 in aaa, playing for the toledo mud hens thanks to an agreement the blue jays had with the indians.  after the season, hilton went to play in japan where he enjoyed a good amount of success in 1978.  after a disappointing year in 1979 and a tumultuous start to the 1980 japanese season, he returned to the states and spent the 1980 and 1981 seasons in the pirates' organization.

voici à vous, dave hilton!

  1. The Blue Jays logo on the hat is different, too. Notice the angle of the red maple leaf and the neck of the bird.

  2. The photoshopping of the collar on the Topps card makes it look like he came over to the Blue Jays from the Rangers. But Hilton never played for the Rangers. Maybe Topps guessed that the Blue Jays would wear red in their uniforms (based on the maple leaf) and, like you said, it was changed for the OPC card.
